Francois, J.W., The Gift of Reason: St. Irenaeus and John Paul II in Dialogue, Teologia w Polsce 16,1 (2022) s. 153-172
(pokaż artykuł‚ / display full-text)

Summary:
St. Irenaeus as a western figure has a different exegetical account of Genesis which provides some of the foundational principles for his theological concepts of the ‘new Adam' and recapitulation. The western theological tradition has instead taken the approach handed down by St. Augustine which is seen in St. John Paul II's Theology of the Body. This article will describe the difficulties of Irenaeus's view while also showing the faults of the Augustinian position as shown in John Paul II while comparing the fruit of both in order to develop a synthesis that can encapsulate the fruit of both positions.

PLACUIT DEO FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF ST. IRENAEUS
Summary
St. Irenaeus, Bishop of Lyons, defender of true Christian doctrine, for centuries considered an authority on the truths of faith, was recently proclaimed by Pope Francis the Doctor Unitatis of the universal Church. This study responds to the Pope's exhortation to know the richness of the saint doctor's theology. For this purpose, I propose an Irenaean reading of the letter Placuit Deo of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith on certain aspects of Christian salvation. Its main aspects have been thoroughly developed thanks to the studies on this Father of the Church so far, thus revealing the topicality and theological significance of his works for showing the modern world the truth about Christ's salvation.

ST. BENEDICT OF NURSIA AS THE PATRON OF EUROPE IN JOHN PAUL II'S TEACHING
Summary
Contemporary Europe is experiencing a serious crisis, manifested, among others in demographic problems and in the axiological vacuity caused by the expelling of religion from all areas of life. The causes of this crisis are much deeper and not are only on the economic and political level. We have the crisis of the identity. One must to look for an antidote to this situation. One of the authorities who often speaks on themes linked with the identity of Europe is John Paul II, who for almost 27 years of his pontificate devoted many initiatives, speeches, homilies and documents to this matter. The proposal of the papal teaching concerns, among others, references to the heritage of the Saint Patrons of the Old Continent: Benedict, Cyril and Methodius, Brigitte of Sweden, Catherine of Siena and Teresa Benedicta of the Cross. We don't just mean here about recalling their historical merits, but above all about the actuality of their message for contemporary Europeans. St. Benedict, called the Western Founder of Religious Order, teaches us, by creating the first religious low, how to perceive what is eternal in a world dominated by consumption. Thanks to the developed principle of ora et labora, it opposes the prevailing disintegration and teaches us the correct approach to human work. From his teaching, contemporary societies marked by the “crisis of fatherhood" can learn what it means to be a real “Father".

THE OBEDIENCE OF JESUS CHRIST IN THE MYSTERY OF THE COVENANT
Summary
Within the frames of contemporary Christology, which has returned to patristic tradition, it is once again emphasised that the obedience constitutes the highest manifestation of life and message of Jesus Christ. It is in obedience where personal identification of the being and mission of Jesus, expressing His relation with God the Father and defining His exceptionality, finds its realisation. This perspective allows a profound interpretation of Jesus's work for the benefit of man, which goes beyond all immanent reductions. This view becomes also a starting point for the appropriate understanding and interpretation of the act of salvation and by the same token of the new covenant with God. This article presents the obedience of Christ in relation to the mystery and history of the covenant which constitutes, to some extent, an introduction to the correct representation of the form and content of this obedience and simultaneously to determination of its soteriological meaning.

THE MYSTERY OF THE VIRGIN MOTHER OF GOD IN THE SHADOW OF THE TEMPLE IN JERUSALEM. DID MARY GROW UP IN THE TEMPLE?
Summary
This article recalls the figure of the prophetess Anna, mentioned only once in the Gospels, who “never left the temple but worshipped night and day, fasting and praying“ (Lk 2:37). A question arises as to the meaning of such a detailed description of it. Then the question of the possibility of rearing Mary in the Jerusalem temple under the supervision of Anna was analyzed. Finally, the content of the study presents the Biblical foundations confirming such a possibility, which is based on the opinions of theologians and the liturgical tradition of the Church. The article seeks to reveal the theological implications of the Virgin Mary's vow and her staying in the most holy place of Israel's religious worship in the early years of her life. The final conclusions are focused on the area of intersection of soteriology and anthropology, theology of spirituality and objective Mariology, for which the axis of interpretation of salvific events is the implementation of the eternal plans of the Holy Trinity.

THE PROGRAM OF PRACTICAL ECUMENISM ACCORDING TO YVES CONGAR'S CHRÉTIENS DÉSUNIS
Summary
The author of the article analyzes the work of Yves Congar Chrétiens désunis. Principes d'un "œcuménisme" catholique (Paris 1937). He distinguishes two themes: the position of the separated brethren and of the Catholic Church on ecumenism and the four dimensions of practical ecumenism that the French Dominican proposes for the Church: recognizing the primacy of God's action, going beyond prejudices against the brethren, returning to the sources, renewing doctrinal dialogue.

THE THEOLOGY OF THE MARIAN PRAYERS BY POPE FRANCIS
Summary
The author of the article presents the content of more than twenty prayers of Pope Francis addressed to Our Lady in various Shrines dedicated to Her. The Holy Father honors Mary in them, using her various, strictly theological titles: (Immaculate Mother, Holy Virgin, Mother of God, Mother of Jesus), or those that he himself has formed: (Mother of silence, beauty, tenderness, Woman of decisions, actions, our Mother). At the same time, he shows who in fact Mary is for him as well as for the faithful. Pope Francis' zeal with which he pleads with the “Mother of the Afflicted" seems particularly striking. He begs Our Lady so that She would intercede with the merciful God and with her Son, the Redeemer on behalf of individual statuses of the People of God, especially for those suffering in spirit because of sin and in the body, i.e. for the victims of injustice, for the poor, the sick and the persecuted. This means that Pope Francis managed to code in his prayers a profound Mariology that manifests itself in a living Marian devotion.
